2013: (Year 54)

  • The 1st March roll was 768 and 1st July 753.
  • The NCEA Level 2 standards were realigned.
  • The Government launches its "Youth Guarantee Scheme" 
  • The PTA Gala was held on Sunday 23rd June.
  • TSB Community Trust grants Spotswood College $4,200.00 for the 2013-2014 financial year.
  • On the 2nd March, a burst water pipe in front of the Music suite forces the College to close for the day.
  • Spotswood hosted its first group of 3 students from our sister school Hatsukaichi High School, Hiroshima, Japan
  • In the April holidays, led by Mrs. Reiko Smithers 7 students and 4 adults visited Japan for 2-weeks.
  • In the October holidays, led by Mrs. Michele FitzPatrick 10 Spotswood Spanish students and 5 from FDMC undertook a two-week study tour of Argentina.
  • In October Madame Sabine de Crevoisier and 3 senior French students visited New Caledonia for 12 days.
  • In mid-May we hosted the first visit by 24 students and 3 staff from the College Jean Fayard in Dumea, near Noumea, New Caledonia.
  • The Kapan Haka group competed at the Pae Rangitahi contest in Wanganui on 4th & 5th July.
  • On 12th December, led by Mr. Robin Stanford 5 Spotswood students visited Cambodia & Thailand for a month's study tour.
  • Spotswood teams entered the Taranaki Literary Challenge and the Taranaki regional Mooting competition.
  • In July, 30 students from the Year 12 & 13 Accounting & Economics classes undertook a study trip to Wellington.
  • Anya Wangsuwan (International student from Thailand) won the overall "Youth Designer Award" at the Underground Youth Fashion Show held in Wanganui.
  • "Kai with Soul" Food & Nutrition fortnightly features in the Daily News completed the 6th year.
  • "Spotty Idol 9" was another amazing night won this year by Abby Christodoulou.
  • Seven extracts were entered at the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival regionals held at Stratford with the student-directed (Laura Anderson & Olivia Preston) Othello's "willow' scene winning and then representing Taranaki at the national finals in Wellington in June. 
  • Music:- The Hatrix Jazz band and Concert band competed at the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Band Festival at Hamilton and gained a silver award. The one entry in the Taranaki Rockquest regionals saw Gloriana Wilson win the solo/duo category. Spotswood again hosted the Taranaki Secondary Schools Orchestra Day.
  • Sports teams:-Badminton, 3 Boys' & 5 Girls' Basketball; 1 Boys' Cricket; Equestrian; Golf; 1 Mixed Hockey; 4 Netball; 2 Boys' Rugby; 1 Boys' & 1 Girls' Soccer; and Boys' & Girls' Volleyball.
  • We hosted a Welsh school- Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera, from Swansea, Wales in Netball and Hockey.
  • On 28th February we farewelled Miss Dot Andrews who retired after 44 years of service to Spotswood College (1969-2013).
  • Our Finance Manager for 23 years  Mr. Peter Smith also retired, and after 5 years Deputy Principal Mrs. Jude Barnes took up a position with NZQA in Wellington.
