1960 - Our Foundation year

  • Monday 2nd February- The College opened with 10 Staff (7 permanent and 3 part-time)and 136 3rd form students(62 Boys & 74 Girls)
  • 23rd February- First Swimming Sports at Kawaroa Pool
  • 10th March- First Athletic Sports held on Top field.
  • Thursday 17th March- inaugural meeting when the Parent-Teacher Association(PTA) was established with Mr. J.D Campbell (President), Mr. I. E. Smillie (Secretary-Treasurer) and a committee of 6.
  • 25th May- The College was officially opened by the Minister of Education Hon. P.O.S. Skoglund.
  • 2nd June-First school social.
  • 23rd June- B.C.G. tests
  • 13th July- Freyberg HS from Palmerston North visit for sports exchange
  • 22nd July- Spotswood sports teams visit Manurewa HS, South Auckland.
  • 5th August: The PTA held an old Clothes Sale raising about 40 pounds ($80), as their first fund-raising activity.
  • 6th October- First Cross Country(Steeplechase)
  • 7th October- Speech finals
  • School Hall opened during Term 3.
  • 29th October: The first Gala Day was held with stalls being set-up inside due to the wet weather in the morning. The weather cleared in the afternoon and the gala was a success making 120 pounds ($240).
  • Friday 18th November, the 1st Annual Church Service was held.
  • Thursday 24th November: The first Display of work evening 7.00-8.30pm.
  • 7th December- First Prize giving ceremony
  • Sports teams- Cricket, 3 Netball, 2 Rugby, Softball, Tennis.
  • Music-Choir and Orchestra groups begin.
