1975: (Year 16)

  • The roll is 1393, and the economic situation  has affected the building programme.
  • 7th form common room is completed.
  • In the latter half of the year, the PTA undertook a project to provide a new Canteen.
  • 5th form Pre-vocational work experience continues.
  • 5th form Woodwork group does a 5-day in-depth study of modern woodworking practices in Rotorua.
  • A whole school work day raised $4,800.
  • Spotswood is to become a pilot school for a wider guidance network.
  • Academic changes include 5th form Art being internally assessed, and 6th form certificate gains much wider recognition.
  • Tramping Club, Duke of Edinburgh award, I.S.C.F, Interact groups all continue. 2 Girl's obtain DOE Gold awards.
  • Outdoor Pursuits courses and Spirit of Adventure sailing courses experienced by students.
  • The major production was the play "The Chicken Run". The first night was on 31st July to conclude July's Festival of Plays.
  • Music- Brass Band, Madrigal Singers and Orchestra all active.
  • The annual South Island trip in the August holidays involved 40 students and staff.
  • Sports teams- 3 Cricket, 2 Hockey, 7 Indoor Basketball, 4 Netball, 5 Rugby, 1 Soccer, 2 Volleyball.
