1977: (Year 18)

  • Roll drops to 1384 due to smaller 3rd form intake from Devon Intermediate.
  • Timetable changes to one hour teaching periods a day.
  • The whole school work day raised $4,000, that paid for the new confidence course on the lower field.
  • Mr. Mohi Aupouri was appointed as the first teacher of Maori with 22 3rd form students opting for the course of three 1 hour periods a week.
  • The Interact Club had a membership of 30.
  • 5th form Woodwork group does a 5-day in-depth study of modern woodworking practices in Rotorua.
  • Cricket inter-school fixtures with Freyberg HS and Tawa College continue.
  • Music: The Brass Band, Madrigal Singers and Orchestra were very active. Tawa HS visited on 24th July.
  • The Rangiatea Maori Girls' Hostel closes.
  • The Principal Mr. Alex McPhail retires after 18 years.
  • N.P.B.H.S forms its own Board.
