1973: (Year 14)

  • 31st January,1973 The keys to B-Block extension are handed over.
  • After 30 years of service to education, Mr. L.M. Moss retires as Chairman of the New Plymouth High Schools' Board of Governors. Spotswood College owes Mr. Moss a great debt for his outstanding efforts in the planning stage and in our early years.
  • The final part of the school's building programme has been approved in principle.
  • Our roll is expected to go beyond the 1400 in 1974.
  • A very successful Gala Day held.
  • The major production - Play "The Happiest Days of Your Life".
  • Annual South Island trip took place in the August holidays.
  • 2nd-4th August: Cultural & debating trip to Tawa College. Tawa won the debate.
  • 19th-22nd October: Clive Hamill, David Lobb and Ian McGibbon complete a marathon 76 hours of billards to raise $230 for the school gala day.
  • Music: Brass Band, Orchestra and Madrigal Singers all active. Mary Nation and Stephen Hutton selected for the National Secondary School's Orchestra.
  • Tramping Club had a very active year.
  • First XI Cricket played Freyberg HS at Pukekura Park, and Tawa College at Tawa.
  • Sports teams: Cricket, Hockey, Netball, Rugby, Soccer, Softball, Volleyball.
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award- 7 Bronze, 7 Silver and 2 Gold awards achieved.
  • The 2 Crusader groups merge into one to be known as the Inter-school Christian Fellowship (I.S.C.F).
  • Friday 7th December- 1400 people attending the prizegiving in the gymnasium were evacuated due to a bomb scare.
