The development of a facility for students with Special Needs.
After many years of negotiation the school development plan for the upgrading of the buildings was accepted. This plan because of its size and complexity will probably take 5-10 years to complete will see the whole school virtually re-built. The first stage was:-
a. refurbishment of S block with a 6th form common room
b. a new two classroom Maori Studies block
c. a new senior laboratory in A block
d. re-paint and re-roof 'S' and 'A' extensions
e. a new fence around the swimming pool

Two senior teachers announce their retirements:- Mrs. M. Van Paassen (1972-1990) after 19 years of service, and Miss Margaret Hurley after 16 years(1977-1992).
The Spotswood College Amateur Radio and Electronics Club (ZLZUZ) meet weekly in a small room next to S13.
Sports teams: 7 Boys' & 8 Girls' Basketball; Boys' & Girls' Cricket; Cycling; 2 Boys' & 1 Girls' Hockey; 13 Netball; 4 Rugby; Skiing; Boys' & Girls' Volleyball;
1st XV Rugby and 1st XI Soccer play against Fraser HS in N.P.
Greg Withers and Tracey Egarr participated in the 10-day Spirit of New Zealand courses.
20 Students take part in the annual OPC trip to Turangi.
The Junior and Senior debating teams had a mixed year. The seniors lost to Fraser HS.
The Badminton girls' team competed in NZBF tournaments at Hamilton and Wellington.
Yachting team wins Taranaki regionals and finishes 15th in NZSS champs.
Major Production:- "Frankly Frankie".
Music:- Junior and Senior Bands; and a Choir (16) all girls!!
